Skin Care For Aging Skin
You can begin changing your daily regimen to skin care for aging skin, even before you have menopause symptoms.
Let's face it. Things change. You can act out of denial, or you can acknowledge that pretty much everything is different than when you were twenty. Gracious ... the whole world is different!
Some of these changes are welcome: life experience is invaluable, and you may have settled into a more comfortable life than the one you had as a twenty- or thirty-something.
Some differences, however, can be a lit-tle challenging. If you've already started menopause, then you've most likely realized that all the rules from the past thirty years have done a "180" and your body is no longer co-operating with you the way it once did.
If your skin is in this challenging category, and you don't appreciate what is happening, you'll want to begin transitioning to skin care for aging skin. Metabolic changes in a menopausal (or even peri-menopausal) body require different inputs. Dietary needs are different, your physiology reacts differently to stress, and do we even need to go into hormonal mood swings and hot flashes? (OK, we do, but that's another article.)
Traditional Ayurvedic (from India) Medicine says that women over fifty tend to be "dry" and need extra oils, internally and externally. That's a great justification if you're craving fatty foods, but what about the extra weight? Pounds can appear as if by magic, it seems.
Because it's so much easier (at least for most) to put on weight after the change, you'll hear and read a lot about low fat diets for menopause. This is just wrong. It's important for anyone to consume (and apply to skin) good oils for their own benefit; it becomes imperative when you reach that "certain age." Read more in 'Menopause and Dry Skin'.
And speaking of weight gain, menopause can make your waistline very unforgiving. It may be necessary to change your idea of what it means to treat yourself, but the cortisol issues you've heard about on TV are real, and need to be addressed, too. Coming Soon in 'Weight Gain and Menopause'.

Some women's health care professionals actually recommend five to ten extra pounds (for estrogen production), so don't obsess too much if you weigh a little more than when you were in high school (that's a little, not a lot.) Being healthy and feeling good are more important than being built like a super-model. Read more in 'Anti-Aging Diets'.
What you put on your skin is really important, too. All those anti-wrinkle chemicals you can't pronounce that are in mainstream skin care products soak right into your skin, then head straight for your liver to be processed and broken down. Our livers just weren't designed to handle things like Propyl p-Hydroxybenzoate (AKA propyparabens), and that's only one of hundreds of toxic ingredients that 97% of women apply to their skin every day. Drinking enough water is a good idea at any age; the hydration situation can become critical during the "second half" of life. Puffiness, fine lines, and even that drawn look can be helped with pure water. That's good skin care for aging skin. Read more in 'The Health Benefit of Water'.
Your nutritional needs have changed over the years - there may be things going on in your body that nobody warned you about. Luckily, Nature's pharmacy is well stocked. Coming Soon in 'Supplements for Menopause'.
Part of skin care for aging skin involves getting out of your chair and away from the computer. To properly maintain and rebuild your skin and other tissues, you must have good circulation. Make sure you get physical every day, but be aware that some types of movement are better than others. Read more in 'Anti-Aging Exercise'.
Accumulated toxins from a lifetime of not-so-perfect behavior will weigh you down, hamper your immune system, and keep you from absorbing the nutrients you need to have beautiful, healthy skin. It's time to let go of that unnecessary baggage. Read more in 'Detox for Beautiful Skin'.
Last (and certainly not least), it really is possible to enhance your natural beauty with makeup and cosmetics that are good for your skin. Real beauty is from within - your attitude and your wellbeing. But a healthy touch-up never hurts! Read more in 'Anti-Aging Makeup'.
